A hand-painted miniature of an exquisite German folding fan dating to around 1774–93, inspired by an example in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Accession no. 1978.144.11). Created in pen, ink and watercolour on heavy 300gsm cold-press paper, this 4 × 3 inch miniature captures the delicately cut and painted leaf, the fine hand-made tulle backing, charming pastoral scenes, and beautifully hand-painted ivory sticks. Metallic paint has been used to recreate the shimmering highlights of the historic fan.
