Tiny Tuesday No. 6 — French Day Dress, c.1838–40

£60.00

A hand-painted miniature of a French day dress dating to around 1838–40, inspired by an original garment in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art (Accession no. 2009.300.919). Created in pen, ink and watercolour on heavy 300gsm cold-press paper, this study captures the developing silhouette of the late 1830s, when skirts began to widen into the bell-shaped forms of the mid-nineteenth century.

The gathered bodice and finely patterned textile reflect a moment in which fashion balanced structure and ornament, supported by layered undergarments that shaped the distinctive silhouette of the period.

This is the original miniature — as shown on my Instagram and TikTok pages.

Please note, reproductions such as prints or cards may be created from the artwork in future.
